Synopsis:

"Esther Ofarim, one of the greatest voices to emerge from Israel, enjoyed sweeping success - and then, almost overnight, disappeared. For decades she has lived in her modest apartment in Hamburg, far from the Middle Eastern bustle. Through phone conversations between Shaked, the film’s director in Tel Aviv, and Esther in Germany, the geographic and emotional distance between them unfolds. It becomes a journey across places, identities, and times, revealing the delicate and elusive figure of an artist who is both a symbol and a distillation of Israeli-ness - a quality she simultaneously rejects and embraces." 

It is the result of an extensive, years-long creative process by director Shaked Goren, who has been working on the project since 2021.
The film features rare archival material about Esther Ofarim, along with interviews with fans and close friends who illuminate her impact from deeply personal perspectives. 
The documentary includes both English and Hebrew subtitles.

"אסתר עופרים, מהקולות הגדולים שיצאו מישראל, זכתה להצלחה מסחררת; ואז, כמעט ביום אחד, נעלמה. מזה עשורים היא חיה בדירתה הצנועה בהמבורג, הרחק מההמולה המזרח־תיכונית. דרך שיחות טלפון בין שקד, במאי הסרט בתל אביב, לבין אסתר שבגרמניה, נפרש המרחק הגיאוגרפי והרגשי בין השניים. זהו מסע בין מקומות, זהויות וזמנים, שמתוכו עולה דמותה העדינה והחמקמקה של אמנית שהיא סמל וזיקוק של הישראליות, מהות שהיא דוחה ומאמצת בו זמנית."

זהו תוצר של תהליך יצירה מקיף ורב־שנים של הבמאי שקד גורן, שעובד על הפרויקט מאז 2021. הסרט כולל חומר ארכיוני נדיר על אסתר עופרים,
